OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) provide a structured framework to keep transformational initiatives on track while advancing them alongside day-to-day operations. Vision, mission, and a company’s value proposition—its strategic identity—can be made actionable at every level of the organization through OKRs. At the same time, OKRs enhance communication around relevant and actionable goals, shaping them in a collaborative process.
For several years, OKRs have been a central component of our own corporate strategy, enabling us to tackle internal tasks with focus and collaboration. Both our internal experiences and those with clients have repeatedly demonstrated the value of the OKR framework in aligning transformational initiatives with routine operations. Using OKRs, we have planned our internal projects quarterly—for example, systematizing our consulting packages, drafting references and customer success stories, and developing clear mechanisms to monitor revenue and external communications.
Our strategic goals are organized into categories beyond the core area of learning and competencies: business success, collaboration, and perception and visibility. This structure provides clarity and helps us prioritize effectively. Clear ownership and precise definitions of objectives and key results have proven extremely useful. The more specific the goal and success criteria, the clearer it became what needed to be achieved.
As a consulting company, this approach has been particularly valuable, helping us adapt our limited time for internal tasks to align flexibly with current demands, market conditions, and our own standards of excellence.
OKRs drive change, KPIs measure health.
Initially, we used simple templates in Excel or Miro to set up our OKR board. However, some time ago, we transitioned our entire OKR board to Mooncamp, and it has since become our clear favorite. The tool stands out for its intuitive design, clarity, and flexibility in visualizing information.
With Mooncamp, various metrics for key results can be quickly configured. The platform offers team spaces and planning boards that can be used as dynamic repositories, enabling teams to track and align progress effectively. Additionally, it allows for the creation of custom check-in templates and the import of data from external sources such as Teams or Excel. Integration with Microsoft Teams is also seamless, enhancing collaboration across platforms.
We are now officially collaborating with the OKR tool provider Mooncamp and actively recommend them as a partner to our clients. As we write these lines, we are supporting the implementation of OKRs in three different software companies across Germany and Europe.
An important observation: The general sentiment among employees regarding the tool is consistently positive. Mooncamp is easy to scale across multiple team levels, and the time required to onboard new users to both the methodology and the tool is minimal.
