As the Earth keeps spinning as usual, the fractures in our world have rarely been as visible as they are this year. Politically, culturally, economically, and ecologically, fragments of what was once connected are drifting apart—often at a pace and with a radicalness that makes it seem as though all we can do is watch. But shaping the future is always an option. In this newsletter, we aim to deepen the reflection on connections and focus on the art of repairing. Christmas kit instead of Christmas kitsch.
Whether it’s relationships, communities or things: If you want to repair something, the first step is to recognize the connections. The adhesive that brings something back together doesn’t have to consist of the old. We understand repairing as something that creates something new from imperfect parts—something unique. A new—perhaps only small—form with a history emerges. Repair is appreciative design.
So, if fractures become painfully visible this year—whether at work, on the streets, or perhaps even at the Christmas table—two questions might help us: What connects us beyond the divide? How can something beautiful arise from the broken?
We invite you to repair, connect, and create with us.
